High-profile athletes x global locations x lighting-inspired packaging design.
Established a bold, high-energy photo styling that carried over into the packaging and set the trend for global Gatorade marketing and social media campaigns.
Word got out and the asks got bigger. Not only were we shooting the athlete color portraits, we were also shooting for POS and POP. That's when I made the call to upgrade the camera and lighting system to bigger, brighter, and higher resolution for billboards and large-scale images. Time with the athletes was a precious commodity, so we moved quickly to execute.
Fernando "El Nino" Tatis Jr.
In our first design session, Tatis revealed the story behind his nickname, inspired by his upbringing in the Dominican Republic playing stickball. I wanted to lean into this layer of his character, so I ventured out on my own to San Pedro de Marcori, tracked down his cousin, and enlisted some local kids playing stickball to capture more personality in his edit.
